In a rut for where to eat out? We have started to create a list of restaurants and of course it pairs perfectly with my desire to test out the best diners, drive-ins, and dives. I might as well sign up to accompany Guy Fieri on his cross-country road-trips.
Tonight's trip was down Homestead to Armadillo Willy's, a BBQ joint I had been introduced to last year. It's more of a casual sit-down restaurant where you walk in, order, find a table and wait to pick-up your food. Overall, lots of good choices with a relatively reasonable price range. They even offer large party platters, good for catering or large get-togethers.
Sean was probably the most adventurous with his decisions. It also helps he has a very fast metabolism, but that's beside the point. Starting off with the root beer float and BBQ melt with brisket and a side corn muffin with honey butter.
The highly advertised and recommended root beer float. Always a classic.
Hallie's BBQ Brisket Sliders - An order of 3 served with a side of your choice. There is also an option of ordering sliders individually.
I had debated ordering the kid's ribs, but my desire to sample a different part of the menu won out. I too selected the BBQ melt - a selection of meat (chicken, brisket, or pulled pork), a mix of cheddar and jack cheese, bacon on Texas Toast, with a choice of side - I obviously went with a side salad. It was unanimously decided that the BBQ pulled pork was a better decision than the brisket. Both tasted great with BBQ sauce (Willie's own mild and spicy varieties).
I still got to see what the kid's ribs looked like. Little Katie was satisfied with the two BBQ ribs (lacking adequate sauce in my opinion...anything BBQ-oriented needs to be doused in sauce)
Sean treated us to a "Texas Size" cookie, a relatively large, doughy chocolate chip pie, because everything in Texas has to be super-sized. There were some quality choices made, but always room for improvement. If your in the mood for a more casual outing, check it out!
